There's something about Hawaii that always draws us to this paradise. John Immel lives on Kauai and in our opinion, one the most beautiful places of all the Hawaiian Islands. We caught up with John to see what he's up to and what island life is like.
Give us an idea of what your day looks like on Kauai?
A day on Kauai starts mostly with a weather check. I either get in the water for a short paddle or get a quick CrossFit class in before work. On the weekends its longer paddles mostly but most days start with whatever activity I’m going to do that day, I’m a morning person for sure.
How long have you been doing Crossfit?
I have been outrigger paddling for about 8 years now and crossfitting for about 4 years. Crossfit has been life changing for me because its taught me how to be strong and flexible/mobile as I get older which is typically when those things really start to deteriorate.
Living in Hawaii must give you an opportunity to do other activities, what else do you do for fun and staying shape?
Outrigger canoe paddling is my passion but getting in the ocean some way keeps me sane. Swimming, hiking, and just spending time at the beach are pretty common.
What's the best thing about living in Hawaii?
Living on Kauai has so many great aspects its tough to list them all. Mostly, I enjoy living in a place so close to the environment and being able to enjoy it so regularly.
What's on your music playlist?
I am a big fan of old school hip hop but some mornings require rage against the machine to really get the blood flowing.
Any last thoughts?
I’m stoked on HDX because hydration is a daily concern for me with the environment here on Kauai and I don’t want to put garbage in my body. HDX gives me what I need and nothing extra - not even wasted packaging!
